Definition of basic component: A particular Global trade item Number, a numerical value used to uniquely identify a trade item. A trade item is any trade item (trade item or service) upon which there is a need to retrieve pre-defined information and that may be planned, priced, ordered, delivered and or invoiced at any point in any supply chain.
Message-specific definition: N/A
Usage rule: The GTIN numbers shorter than 14 digits (13, 12 or 8 digit long), have to be right-justified and filled with zeroes up to 14 digits.
