GSRN (Global Service Relation Number)

The Global Service Relation Number (GSRN) is the GS1 Identification Key used to identify the relationship between an organisation offering services (in this case, any Healthcare provider) and the recipient of services (in this case, the patient). The same Identification Key can be used to identify the relationship between the organisation offering the service and the provider of the service (in this case, the caregiver), but using a different Application Identifier to clearly distinguish the role.

The Application Identifiers (8017, 8018) indicate that the GS1 Application Identifier data field contains a GSRN (Global Service Relation Number).

In comparison, the Global Service Relation Number – Provider (8017) identifies the relationship between an organisation offering services and the provider of services.  While the Global Service Relation Number – Recipient (8018) identifies the relationship between an organisation offering services and the recipient of services.

The GSRN is normally assigned by the Service Provider using either Application Identifier (8017) or (8018).

The GSRN - Provider (8017) is constructed as follows:

Global Service Relation Number (GSRN) - PROVIDER
GS1 Company Prefix >                     < Service Reference Check
Digit
N1 N2 N3 N4 N5 N6 N7 N8 N9 N10 N11 N12 N13 N14 N15 N16 N17
N18

The GSRN - Recipient (8018) is constructed as follows:

Global Service Relation Number (GSRN) - RECIPIENT
GS1 Company Prefix >                     < Service Reference Check
Digit
N1 N2 N3 N4 N5 N6 N7 N8 N9 N10 N11 N12 N13 N14 N15 N16 N17
N18
