Involvement in GSMP
Types of involvement?
Users can become involved in the GSMP as a member (voting rights) or as a participant (non-voting rights)
What is the commitment?
GSMP members must:
- Attend the majority of the meetings
- Be prepared to address agenda items
- Participate in electronic voting
- Serve a two-year term
A GSMP participant is a non-voting individual who wishes to take part in the development of GS1 System standards.
What do I and my organisation get out of being involved?

How is Intellectual Property (IP) dealt with in GSMP?
The world is complicated and litigious. The goal of the GS1 Global Standards Management Process is to produce open, freely implementable, consensus standards that will bring about improvements in the supply chain. One of our major concerns, therefore, is that a standard will be adopted, become widely implemented, and undergird many business processes only to have someone come along, claim intellectual property rights in the standard, and demand royalties from all users of the standard.
