LCN Members and Liaisons

Role of the GS1 Member Organization

The Member Organization (MO) is key to making the Local Community Network a success. The MO facilitates their Members’ involvement in the standards creation process by bridging the gaps of time, geography and language, that may impede participation of many trading partners, However, the local LCN is organized by the MO around its community and gives local members an opportunity to engage in standards without participating in many (or any) English-language meetings, during inconvenient hours and international travel to attend face-to-face meetings. The MO considers the physical size of the community and takes into account issues of time, preferred style and culture, local language, resources, travel costs, and the impact of these on the target constituency.

Role of the Local Community Network Liaison

Each MO provides an LCNP Liaison responsible for all interactions with their members and facilitates their involvement in the standards creation process. The LCNP Liaison ensures the LCNP member has the knowledge to participate in the GSMP community reviews and eBallots. If necessary, the LCN Liaison makes sure that language translations are available to LCNP Members.

What is the relationship between Global Standards Development and LCNP Management?

The GSMP Process Oversight Committee is the management arm of the GSMP and LCNP. The Process Oversight Committee supports the notion that MOs and trading partners should take a larger role in standards creation and that MOs should drive local solutions.

LCNP Members

LCNP Members participate in the development of standards through community review, eBallots and the Global Agenda. They join the GSMP as LCNP members.
