The need for standards

GS1 has a role defining standards so that mobile commerce can become a reality:

• identify industry requirements for B2C and B2B applications
• provide a full set of standards for mobile commerce: barcodes, RFID, identification of products, locations and services, data management
• offer a global platform for the mobile commerce community
• build on the legacy of existing GS1 standards
