Position Summary: 

The GS1 Global Office PMO provides leadership and stewardship for several key practices related to portfolio, project, and program management. We accomplish this by providing resources and expertise to groups within GS1 GO where the scope of responsibilities includes such activities as:

  • Facilitate the on-going management of the GO Project Portfolio with a focus on global projects & programmes including prioritization, coordination, and risk mitigation
  • Advance our project and program management practice through the standardization and adoption of Agile and PM methodologies, tools and process
  • Provide skills and expertise towards the management of projects and programs with on-demand support
  • Execute training to enable the GO group to leverage and understand the value of utilizing project and program processes and tools
  • Supporting the evolution of the Product and IT in using Agile processes

This position is a Scrum Master reporting to the GS1 Global Office PMO lead and working in direct teams and partnership with Development and Product teams.The primary function of this role is to act as a Scrum Master for technical product development, as well as project management for IT operations processes and product rollout project management.As a member of the PMO, this position may also actively participate in the creation, rollout, and training for the organization on related processes and practices.


  • Guides and coaches the Scrum Team on how to use Agile practices and principles to deliver high value and high-quality products and services to our customers
  • Gets team to a high performing level by recognizing areas of strength and improvement and employing appropriate coaching and development techniques
  • Responsible for ensuring Scrum is understood and the team adheres to Scrum theory, practices, and guidelines
  • Coaches the Scrum team in self-organization, cross-functional skillset, domain knowledge and communicates effectively, both internally and externally working within the Scrum team
  • Works with Developers and Product Owners from the Scrum Team, as well as internal and external stakeholders, to influence and drive decision making and implement organizational priorities with project and product teams
  • Resolves team impediments to increase the effectiveness of the application of Scrum in the organization
  • Contributes to the advancement and improvement of Agile practices within the organization
  • Facilitates and supports all scrum events: Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective
  • Assist in the integration planning across Programmes and actively manage cross-project dependencies
  • Track the progress of project deliverables as appropriate
  • Responsible for the PMO project status reporting for assigned projects
  • Contribute to the development and organizational introduction of GS1 product development and PMO processes and standards


  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4 years of product or project development experience, or 8 years of project development experience on an Agile Team or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating meetings at multiple levels of an organization and an understanding of facilitation techniques
  • Experience working with SAFe
  • Prior experience working with remote team members/teams while using Agile processes
  • Certified Scrum Master preferred
  • Legally able to work in the US

Skills required: 

  • Exemplifies and promotes Agile values and principles
  • Outstanding communication, facilitation, negotiation, and coaching skills
  • Knowledge of an agile framework or method (i.e., Scrum, Kanban, SAFe), and understanding of software development life cycle models as well as in-depth knowledge of traditional project management principles and practices
  • Adept at refinement, story splitting, estimation, velocity, retrospection, and other Scrum techniques
  • Planning and problem solving with product management and delivery teams, including root cause analysis techniques
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • A team leader, able to collaborate while also able to enforce standard processes
  • Motivated to work in a multi-cultural, globally distributed environment
  • Fluency in written and spoken English required
  • Experience with Smartsheet and/or Microsoft Azure is a plus
