Scan4Safety Conference 2017

Across the two days of the Scan4Safety conference, hundreds of NHS Trust and supplier representatives arrived in London to hear the latest news on GS1 implementation in the NHS. The event was hosted by the Department of Health in association with GS1 UK, and the fact that it was heavily over-subscribed is a sign of the growing importance of this project.

There was a great line up of speakers including Lord Carter of Coles, Non-Executive Director of Monitor - the sector regulator for health services. He summarised the feeling of the two days well when he said “after staff productivity, GS1 barcoding is the most important change that is happening in the NHS.” In addition, Lord Hunt, Shadow Spokesperson for Health and our Chair for the day, highlighted why he is so passionate about what we are doing – “it brings an improvement to safety alongside an improvement to efficiency. Not many things are achieving this in the NHS today but the Scan4Safety project is.”
