USAID: adoption of global standards for improved supply chain efficiency and progress in Pakistan
Dr. Ramy Guirguis, Senior Information Technology Advisor at USAID and Hayley Traeger, Programme Advisor for Strategic Engagement at USAID presented the organisation’s strategy for adoption of global GS1 standards, including USAID’s journey until the recent announcement of official requirements for product identification. USAID is convinced of the benefits of global standards and is working with suppliers and their local implementation partners.
Dr. Muhammad Tariq, Country Director, Pakistan Field Office USAID Global Health Supply Chain, shared the ongoing progress of the GS1 pilot in Pakistan.
By leveraging the GTIN, serialisation and the GLN, USAID and their partners can improve collaboration, automate warehousing and supply operations, be more targeted in recall actions, and ultimately help to ensure patient safety and prevent counterfeit drugs entering the supply chain.
