3.10.1 Placement

Because readers expect appendices to be at the back of a document, appendices should appear following the last section. However, in unusual circumstances, an appendix may directly follow a section or subsection if what the appendix includes is essential to the understanding of the material contained in the section or subsection.

3.10.2 Appendix numbering

Appendices should be sequentially numbered, using the convention A, B, C, …. The numbering rules in section 3.5 also apply to the appendices with the only difference being the appendix letter takes the place of the top level section number.

Examples:

Appendix A 1.2 = A.1.2

Appendix C 62.1.1 = C.62.1.1
