Purpose of this Document
This document is intended to clarify the technical aspects of the GS1 XML Business Message Standard Major Release 3.
Scope of this document
This "GS1 XML Technical User Guide to Release 3" covers only technical aspects of the GS1 Business Message Standard for GS1 EDI Major Release 3. It does not explain the technical details of any earlier releases. The major differences between the current release (MR3) and the previous one (MR2) are listed in the Section 9.
"GS1 XML Technical User Guide to Release 3" does not contain any guidelines for use of the particular business messages in specific business processes. This is covered in the Business Message Standard specification documents, separately for each business message. Certain specific constraints may also apply to other business processes, therefore, it is advisable to contact the respective user group for further guidance.
Note: This guide does not cover GS1 XML design for the Global Data Synchronisation Network – GDSN. Users involved in the GDSN should refer to the GDSN Operations Manual.
Target audience
This document is intended to serve as an implementation guide for business and technical community who will implement GS1 XML standards. It can also be used by the GS1 Member Organisation employees, to educate their user companies about the implementation of the GS1 XML standards.
