GS1 standards are implemented by countries around the world to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Delivering better patient care through efficiency and transparency in the NHS procurement

The UK Department of Health published an eProcurement strategy which sets out a range of measures to enable transparency and efficiency in the English National Health Service (NHS) procurement to help support patient safety. The strategy estimates that hospital trusts can save £1.5bn by the end of 2015-16 by taking a cohesive approach to procurement based on global GS1 standards, national infrastructure and local systems delivery.

Australia's healthcare supply chain reform with GS1 standards

National E-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA), the lead organisation supporting a national vision for eHealth solutions and initiatives in Australia, facilitated the development of a National Product Catalogue (NPC) which provides suppliers with a single mechanism to communicate structured catalogue data to many health customers. It also enables synchronisation of product and pricing data used for electronic procurement.
